Student Jodie Baker rides through a golden-yellow field of rapeseed as she went for an early morning ride through the spectacular field in Rothwell, Northants, ..Britain's countryside has been turning yellow after the fragrant crop burst into colour three weeks earlier than usual thanks to an unusually hot and sunny April...Rapeseed, which is an irritant to hay fever sufferers, now covers more than 1.5million acres across the UK...This year's crop, which will nearly all be turned into vegetable oil, was sown last August and will be harvested in July. It usually starts flowering in mid-May...Rapeseed is a member of the mustard or cabbage family and the name derives from the Latin for turnip...It was first recorded in English at the end of the 14th century, but it was during the 1980's that it started to become more commonly seen...Oil is taken from the seed and the plant itself is recycled back into the soil...Forecasters believe this could be the hottest April on record and the temperatures are expected to stay high into the Easter weekend.
