PIC SHOWS WATER BUFFALO TRYING TO COOL DOWN IN CHIPPENHAM FEN,CAMBS,ON MONDAY MORNING JUNE 27 2011.IT WAS WARMER IN THE UK THAN THEIR NATURAL HOME IN INDIA... It make look like a scene from the plains of India, but in fact this herd of Asian WATER BUFFALO are roaming in the heart of the ENGLISH countryside...The magnificent beasts were seen cooling down today (Mon) in the ponds and water-filled ditches at Chippenham Fen, just 10 miles from the busy city of Ely, Cambs...As temperatures soared past 90 C, the buffalo spent their time swimming and wading in the water at the national nature reserve, where it was HOTTER than their native India...The animals have been released on the 40 acres of fenlands to help maintain the environmentally-sensitive wetland...Their grazing and powerful horns help to keep the vegetation and scrub under control, allowing many species of insects and wild flowers, including rare orchids, to thrive...SEE COPY CATCHLINE Water buffalo cool down in UK
