PIC SHOWS LUCY WATTS CHECKING HER CROP OF SUNFLOWERS AT BRITAINS BIGGEST SUNFLOWER FARM NEAR SPALDING,LINCS,ON WEDNESDAY 3 AUGUST 2011... It looks like a scene from the south of France but the sunny summer weather has helped this spectacular crop of sunflowers flourish in the heart of the UK...The dry weather over the past few weeks has been perfect for the 160 acres of plants at Britain~s largest grower of sunflowers in Spalding, Lincolnshire...But sadly these sunflowers will not be picked, instead every single one will be fed to the birds..."This week has really helped the sunflowers to flourish, they need as much sun as possible," said Lucy Watts, 33, manager of bird food at the 2,000 acre family-run Vine House Farm..."They had a difficult start as we had a dry spring and they need a moist seed bed when they are planted..."But they are doing really well and if the sun continues to shine for the rest of August it would be perfect for them..
